Greater Sudbury Police will purchase a 2007 Habercraft boat for its traffic unit.
The police board approved the $51,700 purchase at its regular meeting on Thursday.
Board members heard the boat is necessary because local officials have to cover a large area. Greater Sudbury Police have taken over responsibility from the OPP to patrol waterways in the northeast section of the city, which includes Lake Wahnapitae.
The boat will be delivered in the spring.
